Autumn Wedding Inspiration

With many couples having to postpone their wedding day to dates later in the year, we thought there is no time like the present to share our autumn bridal photo shoot with you.

We should start by saying that in our (humble) opinion, The Moat House looks stunning no matter what time of year you decide to get married. We’re incredibly fortunate to be situated in the gorgeous Staffordshire countryside and surrounded by so much natural beauty. From the serene stillness and low sun of winter, when the ducks glide across the frozen lake to the awakening of nature in the spring when the daffodils begin to bloom to the buzz of summer when the grounds are alive with wildlife and blooms.

Autumn is no exception. One of the more underrated seasons for weddings, autumn has so much to offer. The turning leaves of orange and red create the most beautiful backdrop. The options when it comes to choosing your flowers are just something else. And, as you can see, the “golden hour” is truly golden at this time of year!

Many couples associate autumn weddings with warm hues, which are stunning as the backdrop to outdoor photographs, especially in the late afternoon when the sun hits the trees surrounding the lake. But, if oranges and reds aren’t your first choice when it comes to colour schemes, there is no need to write off an autumn wedding! One of the reasons we love this shoot so much is the step it takes away from those traditional autumnal colours.

Contrasts Compliment

In Kayleigh’s bouquet, Leanne from Foxgloves and Feathers opted for a beautiful combination of soft pink florals with purple and silvery green foliage with a burst of pampas grass. The contrast of the oversized bouquet against the oranges and reds of the trees is simply beautiful and highlights the possibilities and versatility when it comes to planning an autumn wedding.

This theme continues upstairs in our oak-beamed Colin Lewis Suite, which is set for an intimate wedding breakfast. The table length runner of florals combines dark purples, soft pinks and peaches interspersed with candles and decorative vases to create a cosy and warm atmosphere that compliments the grandeur of the room perfectly.

We were so lucky to be able to work with some fantastic Staffordshire based creatives for the shoot. Over the last 30 plus years of hosting weddings we have built long-standing relationships with some amazing local suppliers but we’re also constantly on the lookout for up and coming suppliers to recommend to our couples.

We feel this shoot combines these two groups of creatives perfectly. From Ian at French Connection Photography, who has shot countless weddings with us and knows the place like the back of his hand and Rebecca from Mix n’ Match who has been our go to bridalwear guru for years. To members of our own Moat House family, Hannah and Niamh, who both work in our events team and have recently branched out into hair and make-up, to Leanne from Foxgloves & Feathers and Laura from Laura Loves who were creatives we hadn’t had the pleasure of working with before but certainly will be recommending them to our couples in the future!
