Host a Party for New Year’s with The Moat House
If you’re keen to see in the New Year with a bang this year, why not consider hosting a party for New Year’s? With years of experience planning, organising and hosting parties to celebrate all kinds of occasions, we’ve put together some top tips to help you plan the perfect party.
Plan your guest list
One of the first things you should think about when planning any party is your guest list. Knowing how many people you will be inviting can help you narrow down appropriate venues for your event.
At the Moat House, we have numerous private function rooms so we can cater for various numbers. Our large Acton Suite can host 200 for buffet-style food or 130 for a sit-down meal, while the Colin Lewis Suite has a capacity of 50, and the Trussell Suite hosts up to 32, making it perfect for more intimate gatherings.
Decide on a theme
The next step when planning the perfect party for New Year’s is to decide on a theme to help bring a sense of cohesion and unity to the event. This could be as simple as your favourite colour or the decade you were born in, or you can get creative and come up with something totally unique.
You can also decide how far you want to take the theme; it can simply set the tone for your chosen location, decorations and food choices, or you can opt to go all out and request people to come dressed for the occasion.
Some of our favourite New Year’s Eve party themes include:
- A black and white ball
- Masquerade
- A specific decade
- The Great Gatsby
- Club night
- Heroes and villains
- Sustainable
Choose your venue
Once you have worked out your numbers and theme, you can start to look at suitable venues. When it comes to choosing a venue for a party for New Year’s, you should consider:
- The location – is it convenient for your friends and family to get to, and will they be able to stay overnight or get a taxi (let’s face it, most people will want to enjoy a glass or two of fizz at New Year). At the Moat House, you have the added advantage of being able to book rooms for your guests, meaning there’s no need to worry about how anyone gets home.
- The facilities – is it equipped with everything you need to make your party a success, whether that’s plenty of parking, accessibility or adequate toilet facilities?
- Your theme – think about how well a location fits with your theme, if they will allow you to bring your own themed decorations, or whether they can help with this, and what entertainment options are possible.
- Closing time – a party for New Year’s needs to last until midnight, so remember to check if your venue can accommodate this. Some venues may have restrictions or charge extra for going past a certain time.
Choose the food
After all the Christmas overindulgence, it can be easy to overlook food when planning a party for New Year’s, but people will want to eat. Opting for a buffet or canapes is a good way to provide a lighter option and keep people on their feet and circulating, but if it’s a more structured party you’re keen to host, then a sit-down meal is probably best.
Think about drinks
For a New Year’s Eve party to remember, thinking about the finer details, like what drinks will be served, is not to be missed. Depending on your theme, you might want to consider coming up with themed cocktails, or you may choose to keep things simple and just offer an arrival drink or a glass of fizz to toast with at midnight.
Plan the entertainment
No party for New Year’s would be complete without entertainment, so it’s essential you think about how you will keep your guests entertained until midnight and maybe even beyond. You can use your theme to help you come up with suitable ideas. For example, if you’re planning a club night party, you could book a DJ to play your favourite club classics, while for a Great Gatsby themed evening, you may opt for a jazz band.
