Home to the Peak District National Park and with a wide range of historic attractions, varied landscapes and bustling cities, Staffordshire offers something for everyone.

A county steeped in history, Staffordshire is home to the brewing capital of the world (Burton-on-Trent), the staffy bull terrier, internationally renowned potteries and the world’s most divisive spread, Marmite.

Staffordshire’s two cities, Stoke-on-Trent and Lichfield, famed for their potteries and cathedral respectively, are well worth a visit.

From farmer’s markets and pot throwing to historic walking tours and music festivals, keep reading to discover what’s on in Staffordshire.

 

Longton Carnival and Pigwalk Parade

Celebrating the story of John Aynsley, who raised the money to build Longton Cottage Hospital and Queens Park by driving a pig through the town, a giant pig puppet leads musicians and performers through Longton town centre.

Expect vibrant costumes, imaginative dance performances and epic beats, not forgetting the giant pig.  This free-to-attend event includes a funfair, stalls, street food and a street theatre.

Easter Trail, Tittesworth Water

Easter adventures await at Tittesworth Water. Perfect for families, collect a trail sheet and hop around the scenic trail to find the chocolatey treats. No booking required.

Tittesworth Water is a large reservoir near Leek with beautiful views of the Roaches. Situated on the edge of the Peak District, the site offers a range of activities throughout the year including watersports and wildlife watching.

The Great British Food Festival, Trentham Gardens

Get ready for a feast of flavours at this family-friendly, fresh-air foodie festival. Held at Trentham Gardens, you can find artisan markets, sizzling street food, chef demos, live music, foraging walks, cake offs and a range of activities. If that wasn’t enough, tickets grant you access to the beautiful Trentham Gardens too.

Wildlife at the Castle, Stafford Castle

Join one of Stafford’s most popular events in one of Stafford’s most iconic locations. The Wildlife at the Castle event includes ponies, bees, birds of prey, alpacas and ferrets and offers the chance to get closer to nature.

There are a range of local stalls selling artisan crafts and food, and various activities.

Staffordshire County Show, Staffordshire County Showground

This two-day event celebrates local agriculture, food and businesses. The Staffordshire County show provides something for everyone, from sheep shearing and horse-shoeing competitions and falconry displays to ferret roadshows and steam railway rides. There are numerous trade stands, a packed main-ring schedule, a craft fair and a food hall selling delicious local produce.

The Reunion Show, Staffordshire County Showground

Car lovers will appreciate the fifth Reunion Show, showcasing modified cars from across the country. With a range of attractions, cars galore and fabulous food and music, this promises to be an exciting day out.

Stafford Music and Food Festival

Head to Stafford’s Market Square and town centre to experience live music performances, delicious street food, mobile bars, stalls and dance troupes. Held on the third Thursday of every month from May to December, this free mini-festival is well worth a visit.  Find out more here.

 

Stafford Farmer’s Market

A trip to a local farmer’s market is always a good idea, particularly when it’s in a county so famous for its food. From oatcakes and artisan bread to jam, pickles, scotch eggs and handmade pies, celebrate Staffordshire’s foodie heritage with a trip to the Market Square.

The market is held on the second Saturday of every month.

 

Throw a Pot Session, Stoke-on-Trent

Staffordshire is well known for its potteries, and the region's abundance of clay, lead, coal, and salt provided the ideal materials for potters. Staffordshire ware was made from the 17th century onwards.

You can visit the pottery factories and museums or try your hand at pot throwing at Loveclay Ceramics, who host a range of courses and events, including the popular Saturday ‘throw a pot’ session where you can spend an hour creating a masterpiece - no experience necessary. Discover more here.
